The Raven (Universal, 1935). One Sheet (27 X 41). After the incredible success of 1934s The Black Cat, Carl Laemmle brought the kings of horror together for another adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe tale of terror. This film had as many creepy obsessions as the prior film had, complete with torture chambers; one wonders how the film made it past the censors at the Hays Commission. In this outing, Lugosi was the villain while Karloff is the sympathetic gangster carved up by the diabolical surgeon. Prior to restoration the poster had the following defects; there was approximately one-quarter of an inch trimmed around the border and further small chipping in the border, two 2 cross-fold tears in Karloffs mouth, some light chipping and smaller cross-fold tears along all of the horizontal and vertical fold lines with a bit larger chipping along the lower horizontal fold line. There was a larger 4 tear by the candle in the lower right corner and some color touch to the title, lower credits and background towards the bottom. All of these defects have restored so that the poster now appears quite presentable. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
