Cabin in the Sky (MGM, 1943). One Sheet (27 X 41) Style C. A landmark film by any standard, this was one of the first films produced by a major studio to feature an all-black cast, a cast that included some of the biggest, most talented names in Hollywood, including Ethel Waters, Eddie Rochester Anderson, Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong, Mantan Moreland, and Butterfly McQueen. The first feature film to be directed by Vincente Minnelli, it tells the story of Little Joe (Anderson), an inveterate gambler who is shot during an illicit outing to a casino. His wife, Petunia (Waters), prays for his soul, which leads to a major battle between the forces of Good and Evil. A lavish production, filled with outstanding musical performances, this film is as entertaining today as it was the day it was filmed. The spectacular poster offered here, featuring art by the one-and-only Al Hirschfeld, is one of the most sought after posters of the war years. It has some fold wear, crossfold separation, edge wear, and pinholes in the corners, as well as some slight staining in the white areas, an extra horizontal fold at the bottom, and a crease in the bottom right corner. There is some tape on the top reverse, reinforcing some small edge tears. Despite these minor flaws, this is a very attractive and desirable poster for any fan of vintage film or classic jazz. Fine/Very Fine.
