Remarks:
|
Film that made William Holden a star. Columbia Pictures was initially unhappy with Holden's work, and tried to dismiss him, but Stanwyck insisted that he be retained. Some thirty-nine years later, when Holden and Stanwyck were joint presenters at the Academy Awards, he interrupted their reading of the nominees to publicly thank her for saving his career.

Golden Boy (Columbia, 1939). One Sheet (27 X 41). , This fine dramatization of the Clifford Odet play stars a very young William Holden with Barbara Stanwyck, as a promising violinist who wants to be a boxer. The film made him a star! Columbia Pictures was initially unhappy with Holdens work, and tried to dismiss him, but Stanwyck insisted that he be retained. Some thirty-nine years later, when Holden and Stanwyck were joint presenters at the Academy Awards, he interrupted their reading of the nominees to publicly thank her for saving his career. The posters from this classic film are extraordinarily tough to find and this is the first time we have offered a one sheet, much less anything larger than a window card from this film. This is a top Morgan Lithograph using special gold ink to print the title. The poster had fold and crossfold wear. Excellent conservation work has been performed to return this poster to what appears near mint condition. Fine on Linen.
