The Petrified Forest (Warner Brothers, 1936). Meloy Brothers Poster (40 X 60). , Although Bette Davis received second billing on this incredible poster, she certainly won the best photographic representation. Created in 1936 by the Meloy Brothers of Shelbyville, Indiana, this special 40 X 60 was not an official poster distributed by Warner Brothers. The Meloys created their own posters by using studio photos, enlarging them and then creating their own layout and titles to finish the image. The Petrified Forest is one of the most important gangster films of the 1930s as it established Humphrey Bogart as a cinema criminal. Unfortunately, Bogart is not depicted but the stunning image of Davis more than makes up for the omission. There are at least two copies of this poster known. Very Fine+
