Caption:
The Country That God Forgot (K-E-S-E Service, 1916). One Sheet (28 X 41). , Long time stage actor Tom Santschi began his film career in 1909, and became best known for his long, brutal fistfight with William Farnum in The Spoilers (1914). Farnum won that battle and became a star, whereas Santschi was relegated to mostly bad-guy/secondary roles over the next two decades. An exception is the film The Country That God Forgot, in which he plays a Western miner with an ill-contented wife (Mary Charleson) who longs for a shinier life. Things turn dangerous when she runs off with a thieving government paymaster (Charles Gerrard). This rare stone litho captures the essence of the gunslinging, vigilante, Western spirit in rich, bold hues. Professional restoration has addressed chips and tears in the borders, background and near the folds, with excellent results. Fine- on Linen.
