Caption:
The Four Feathers (Paramount, 1929). One Sheet (27 X 41). The last mainstream silent release by a major U.S. studio, this film is the second of five film adaptations of A.E.W. Masons epic novel released between 1915 and 2002. The story concerns a British army officer who resigns his post just before his regiment goes off to battle. Though this action is rewarded by a gift of four feathers (a symbol of cowardice) by his friends, he is actually planning to go undercover and redeem his honor. This is a lovely stone litho one sheet featuring elegant portraiture of the films stars against a backdrop of war. There is some fold and crosspoint separation, as well as edge and corner wear. The piece also has some very small smudges in the border area and one tear that barely extends into the image. Also present is a minor printing error, which causes three 4-inch, horizontal smudge lines that extend from the border into the image. Two are faint and not as noticeable, but one is a bit more prominent. These are small defects, though and cannot hinder the beauty of this piece. The image has survived in vivid color with bold, striking composition. This is a wonderful poster from a historic period in cinema. Very Fine on Linen.
