Fairbanks's last silent film

The Iron Mask (United Artists, 1929). One Sheet (28.25 X 41). , The sequel to Douglas Fairbankss early film, The Three Musketeers (1921), the silent screens greatest swashbuckler returns to the role of DArtagnan in this rousing action epic. When Fairbanks discovered his appreciation of, and talent for, heroic roles with The Mark of Zorro (1921), he threw himself enthusiastically into the genre, resulting in some of the best action films ever made to that time. This was Fairbankss last silent film, and, to mark the occasion, DArtagnan dies at the end, the only time one of Fairbankss characters passes away at the end of a film. This incredible stone litho one sheet rarely surfaces, and this copy displays beautifully. The linen has been trimmed up to the border. Fold wear has been minimized with touchup, as well as a small hole in the bottom right and a tear in the top left, several inches of missing white paper in the right and left border that extends up to the background, a small chip at the center crossfold, a small chip in Fairbanks face, and a few tears in the black background near the bottom. The restoration was beautifully applied, and the poster displays very well. Fine+ on Linen. , , Estimate: $6,000 - $12,000.
