Caption:
The Red Circle (Pathe Exchange Inc., 1915). One Sheet (27 X 41). Ruth Roland, in the earliest days of silent cinema - along with Pearl White and Helen Holmes - was one of the most popular of the early serial queens. In this serial, a recently paroled criminal kills both himself and his son to rid himself of the curse of the dreaded Red Circle, leaving his daughter (Roland) alone to face the menace. The action-packed chapters are filled with mysterious murders, narrow escapes and sinister, heavily disguised super-criminals - with Roland herself performing most of her own stunts. This one sheet has had the entire border replaced. Otherwise the image is very clean, with only a couple of small spots in the black background. The poster, which was still unfolded before restoration, has been mounted on linen and expertly restored, giving it a near mint appearance. The gorgeous artwork by Alonzo Kimball displays wonderfully, with bright, beautiful colors. This would grade much higher without the border issues. This is the only known copy of this beautiful poster; it has survived for nearly a century! Very Good on Linen.
