Caption:
The Westerner (United Artists, 1940). One Sheet (27 X 41). As a young America expanded west, ranchers and homesteaders often clashed over land, since the ways in which each would use it was quite different. Here, Gary Cooper plays a drifter who inserts himself in the struggle, and he must battle (and befriend) the famously corrupt, self-appointed Judge Roy Bean (Walter Brennan) in order to keep peace and stay on the right side of the law. Brennan won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his scene-stealing turn, and the film itself was nominated for art direction and original story. This original release one sheet has enlarged pinholes and small tears at the corners, fold wear with separations and minor paper loss at the cross folds. Smudges and pinholes are visible in the borders and field. Fine.
