Caption:
Uncle Toms Cabin (Universal, 1927). One Sheet (24 X 38) (8) Card Lobby Set (11 X 14). Universal Studios version of Uncle Tom was produced in 1927 with a big-budget, full-length version of the novel. (By 1927 full length meant just over two hours. Big budget added up to $1.8 million, though it was advertised as $2.million.) The story was dramatically changed to be more about the story of Eliza and her troubles, with Uncle Tom becoming a very secondary character. This lot contains posters from the 1927 talkie version of the classic novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was directed by Harry Pollard and starred his wife, Margarita Fisher, as the tragic Eliza. These early Universal lobbies are strikingly beautiful. The one sheet has been trimmed of approx 1.5 all the way around. Very Fine.
