Caption:
Viva Villa! (MGM, 1934). One Sheet (27 X 41). Style D. , MGM advertising/publicity/art directors, Howard Dietz and Hal Burrows, knew exactly what they were doing when they hired a hot young artist, Al Hirschfeld to work for them. It was 1929 and the artist was in demand, already a top caricaturist. His single line drawings were well known with their simple, but dead-on exaggerated likenesses where the very soul of the actor or actress seemingly leaped off the page. This is one of his most delightful full color MGM poster paintings. Its a howling Wallace Beery, as Pancho Villa, with a sexy senorita lounging in the wide brim of his oversize sombrero. This very rare poster which we have never sold, much less ever seen, is from one of the best from Tooker Lithography. Fine linenbacking and minimal restoration has rendered this poster collection/gallery ready. There were only minor corner pinholes, very mild fold wear, and some tiny cross fold separation. Very Fine on Linen.
