While the City Sleeps (MGM, 1928). One Sheet (27 X 41). , Heritage is delighted to present this practically never seen one sheet, featuring one of the giants of silent film, the Man of a Thousand Faces. When he wasnt laboring under heavy makeup, Lon Chaney was usually playing a tough guy of one sort or another. In this melodrama, Chaney embodies a gritty lawman who helps a girl escape a gangster who wants her killed because she knows too much. This film is one of the earliest of the gangster films which, in the next decade, would become a staple at the Warner Brothers lot with the likes of Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney. Heritage has only sold a few lobby cards from this film, making this stone litho one sheet a find of a lifetime. A smoking gun and portrait of Chaney, face etched with tension, hint at the nail-biting in store for audiences. In astonishing condition, the only signs of handling are crossfold separations, extra vertical folds, and an offset printing yellow spot in the top corners. Folded, Very Fine-.
