Caption:
Why Men Work (Path??, 1924). One Sheet (27 X 41). , Although Charley Chase never reached the elevated status of the three silent comedy greats -- Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd --he was highly regarded in the industry as a funny-man with excellent versatility. Despite the adoration of critics and his excellent working relationship with producer Hal Roach, few of Chases films were a major success at the box office. This one sheet, however, is a triumph with gorgeous stone litho color and a beautiful rendering of the actor. The bottom left corner is chipped. Restoration has addressed a 12 chip in the bottom left border/image area, a chip in the right border, chips and a tear in the left border, and fold wear. A significant find for collectors of silent comedy! Very Good on Linen. , , Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
