Caption:
Blonde Venus (Paramount, 1932). Special One Sheet (25 X 38). , Marlene Dietrich was known for her bedroom eyes and the painting for this poster promoted that exotic look. This was her fourth American film and was directed by her mentor Josef von Sternberg. This is one of the rare posters of a Color Print Enlargement - Like A Painting in Oils, as its listed in the original 1932 pressbook. This was a special one sheet available to theatres for the lobby. Actually, it was a beautifully produced art print of a Charles Lennox Wright II painting. Wright was a very fine painter who studied with William Merritt Chase and illustrated movie posters for RKO in the 1920s and 30s. He, interestingly enough, chose the strict interpretation of Venus, the Goddess of Love, as his inspiration for the painting. This unique piece does not often surface, and we are pleased that another one has appeared. Minor edge wear is barely perceptible. Touchup was applied to creases near the top border, and creasing near the bottom border. Very Fine- on Paper. , , Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
