Caption:
Congorilla (Fox, 1932). One Sheet (28 X 41.5). , Husband and wife team Martin and Osa Johnson were American adventurers and documentary filmmakers from 1912 through the late 1940s. The twosome captured the publics imagination through their films and books documenting their travels to exotic, far flung corners of the Earth. Their expeditions took them to the Solomon Islands, the New Hebrides, Borneo, and Kenya. From 1929 to 1931 the Johnsons made a trip to the Belgian Congo, where they filmed forest tribal people and the gorillas of the Alumbongo Hills. The film Congorilla was a product of this tour, and the first movie with sound authentically recorded in Africa. A teeth baring gorilla faces off with a roaring male lion in amazingly vivid color on this rare stone litho one sheet. Making its Heritage debut, this poster is perfect for adventure lovers, documentary buffs, and those who appreciate beautifully illustrated posters. We are unaware of another copy of this beautiful poster to have surfaced making this perhaps the only surviving copy. Touchup has been applied to the folds, two chips in the left border, a 5 chip in the bottom border into the Jo of Johnson, and creasing at the bottom right side. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
