Caption:
Gipsy Blood (First National, 1921). One Sheet (27 X 41). , The Ernst Lubitsch/Pola Negri version of Prosper Merimees Carmen was filmed in Germany in 1918. This version came after two American versions, both released in 1915, one by Cecil B. DeMille and starring Geraldine Farrar and the other by Raoul Walsh and starring Theda Bara. First National released this German version in the U.S. in the Spring of 1921. This gorgeous stone litho poster is from that release. The film sticks closely to the novels plot, La Camencita (Negri), a cigarette girl and smuggler, is loved by soldier Don Jose Navarro (Harry Liedtke). He gives everything up, including his sweetheart and his honor, for this woman, who tosses him off and goes after a matador. When she refuses to return to him, Don Jose stabs her to death outside the bull ring. This is one of Lubitschs as well as Negris most famous films. It has been linen-backed and shows only the most minor wear, displaying beautifully. Very Fine+ on Linen.
