King Kong (RKO, R-1938). One Sheet (27.5 X 41). , Considered by most as one of the greatest horror/science fiction/fantasy films ever made, King Kong was certainly one of the most innovative. The stop motion animation created by Willis OBrien to be intercut with live actors set the standard that eventually led to the high tech CGI animation of today. But the classic story of Beauty and the Beast is another reason it is still held in such high esteem. Starring Fay Wray as Ann Darrow, Robert Armstrong as Carl Denham, and Bruce Cabot as Jack Driscoll, the non-stop action, set on a remote jungle island and among the skyscrapers of New York City, with a giant ape running rampant, thrilled audiences upon its initial release in 1933, and still continues to entertain today. And this amazing image, one that many poster collectors know but very few have ever seen in the original 1938 format in which it was printed, is sure to thrill! This stunning reissue one sheet is more rare than the original release one sheets for this classic thriller. In the early 1970s Portal Publications, a printing operation out of Sausalito, California, was actively reproducing classic movie poster images on a smaller format for comic shops and mail order trade. No doubt unable to get their hands on an original Kong poster, they reproduced this beautiful reissue and included a 1933 date on it. For years many collectors thought this was what the original release King Kong poster looked like and that is why the image is familiar to many older collectors. Flash forward to today and this is the only copy of this very rare poster we have ever seen or are aware of! The fabulous artwork surely rivals the best of the 1933 Kong campaign and in our opinion is one of the very best posters produced for this great film. This vibrant copy has one inch of white border added in the very top edge and there was a small ink pen scribble in the orange area between Kongs knee and chest, below the O in KONG whi
