Caption:
Lady of the Pavements (United Artists, 1929). One Sheet (27 X 41). , In his final silent film, which features some recorded music, D.W. Griffith gives audiences a tour de force filled with camera innovations and superb performances by leads William Boyd (the future Hopalong Cassidy), Lupe Velez, and Jetta Goudal. A variation of the Pygmalion tale, this melodrama is set in 19th century Paris, and features Velez, in one of her earliest roles, as a lowly cabaret singer transformed into a noblewoman, in order to embarrass Boyds character. Prior to professional restoration, this gorgeous stone litho one sheet had tears in the border with some extending into the artwork, areas of missing paper in the top and bottom borders and in her hand, and creases throughout with touch-up. The restoration is expertly done, and none of these issues are apparent, leaving a stunning sheet which any collector would be proud to own. Good+ on Linen.
