Laugh, Clown, Laugh (MGM, 1928). One Sheet (27 X 41). , By the time Lon Chaney made Laugh, Clown, Laugh in 1928, he was already a star of the first magnitude, with such timeless classics as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Phantom of the Opera already behind him. As opposed to the monsters and the freaks, however, this was the type of role for which Chaney was primarily known; that of the hopeless romantic caught in a tragic dilemma of unrequited love. Here he plays Tito Beppi, a circus clown who cannot help but weep, who befriends a Count afflicted with uncontrollable laughter. The two become fast friends until it becomes apparent that they are both in love with Simonetta, a fellow performer in the circus. Chaney was a master of his craft by the time of this film, a fact that is more than evident in every glance and every gesture. Considered by many to be one his best roles, Chaney would be dead two years later of throat cancer, ending a brilliant career. This poster is in fabulous unused condition. It has been folded an extra time with two extra vertical folds and some minor crossfold separation and slight color chipping within Chaneys head. These are the only condition defects. Folded, Very Fine.
