Caption:
Lying Lips (Micheaux Film Corporation, 1939). One Sheet (27 X 41). , Oscar Micheaux is regarded as the first significant African-American feature filmmaker, and the most successful African American filmmaker of the first half of the twentieth century. He also produced over 40 films, both silent and talking pictures, through his own company, the Micheaux Film and Book Company of Sioux City and Chicago. Lying Lips is one of the last pictures helmed by Micheaux. It features an all-black-cast, and tells the story of a singer (Edna Mae Harris) framed for murder, and the efforts of her boyfriend (Carman Newsome) to track down the real killer. It is rare to find a one sheet for this film, and this example is in very fine condition. Linenbacked, the piece had pinholes in the corners, a tear in the right border, and fold wear, all of which have been touchedup. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
