Caption:
Mickeys Mellerdrammer (United Artists, 1933). One Sheet (27 X 41). In 1931, production costs on Walt Disneys animated shorts had risen from $5,400 to $13,500 per cartoon. Columbia, who had advanced Disney the money to make each short for several years, backed out when the costs began to skyrocket due to Disneys desire to improve his product more and more. In stepped United Artists, who gave Disney a highly favorable distribution deal. This left him to concentrate on the production of his cartoons. The United Artist posters are, without a doubt, the most beautiful animated cartoon posters and certainly the most rare. This lovely one sheet depicts the cartoon that was a nostalgic tribute to pre-turn-of-the-century stage productions. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and the gang present their own budget-challenged rendition of Uncle Toms Cabin for a raucous crowd in what appears to be a barn converted into a theater for the occasion. The poster has been mounted on linen. It has a number of pin holes in the border only. There is a bite out of the right border that is approximately 3 long by 1 at its deepest. It does not come anywhere near the image, which is almost pristine and untouched. The linen has been trimmed to the edge of the poster. This is the only known copy of this poster! Very Fine+ on Linen
