Caption:
Ninotchka (MGM, 1939). One Sheet (27.25 X 40.5) Style D. , Greta Garbo is undoubtedly the star of this gorgeous style D one sheet, rarely offered by Heritage. Garbo, known for her on-screen stoicism and far-away stares, decided to break away from her traditional roles and appear in this witty comedy from director Ernst Lubitsch. Working from a script by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder, the comedy was enticing, romantic and satirical all at the same time. As a Russian communist official, Garbo arrives in Paris to oversee the sale of jewels but quickly falls under the sway of the city and drops her icy facade. Underneath the robotic veneer, shes just as human as anyone else and maybe even more so as she falls for Melvyn Douglass Count Leon. The studio developed an inspired ad campaign to get the publics attention and announced to the world, Garbo Laughs. Thanks to professional restoration, this poster is ready to display after airbrushing to a large chip in the right border, tape lift in the top border, and pinholes in the borders. Touchup has been applied to chips above Garbos head and in her face, surface paper loss in the top right background, and a tear in the a of Ninotchka. Very Good on Linen.
