Caption:
Popeye the Sailor in Shakespearian Spinach (Paramount, 1940). One Sheet (27.25 X 41). , Created by E.C. Segar and voiced by Jack Mercer, Popeye the Sailor Man was a very popular cartoon character, especially during the dark days of World War II, when his optimism and strength inspired moviegoers everywhere. In this installment, Popeye replaces Bluto as the lead opposite Olive Oyl in a benefit performance of Romeo and Juliet. These pre-war Popeye posters have always been scarce and weve never seen a copy of this poster before! The one sheet has been mounted on linen, trimmed to the edges of the poster. Touchup has been applied to the folds, crossfolds, tape lifts on the verso, and pinholes in the corners. This beautiful copy is reportedly from the collection of director Ron Howard. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
