Caption:
The Adventurer (Select Pictures, R-Early 1920s). One Sheet (27 X 41). , This rare, early reissue one sheet is a splendid homage to one of films most beloved entertainers, Charlie Chaplin. In beautiful stone litho, Charlie stands in his prison stripes at the edge of the sea, poised and ready for adventure. He does in fact, escape from the big house, and immediately finds himself in the middle of free society. After rescuing a girl and her mother from drowning, they invite him to their home where a big party is held. Jailbird Charlie receives a heros welcome, but unfortunately his photo is printed in the newspapers, and the prison guards are on his tail. Minor imperfections do not detract from the overall appeal of the one sheet, which shows edge and fold wear, small cross fold separation, and a small chip and tear in the bottom, left, and top border. Chaplin posters are always rare as the time frame of all of his early and great work, 90 years ago, makes for a very high attrition rate on paper. Chaplins genius never ceases to shine, and this is a golden opportunity for a savvy collector to own a piece of the showmans nostalgia. Fine+.
