Remarks:
Many might view it as a re-issue...but yet it isn't. Julian Eltinge, the noted female impersonator, was working on an anti-German war film in 1917, Over the Rhine, using two unknowns, Virginia Rappe (of the Fatty Arbuckle scandal) and a young Rodolph Valentino. Production drug on, the war was over, and anti-war films were suddenly out of fashion. Thus, the film was shelved until 1922

Isle of Love (Herald Pictures, 1922). One Sheet (27 X 41). , This unique find is a fascinating glimpse into Hollywood history. Many might view it as a re-issue poster...but yet it isnt. Thus, the film was shelved until 1920, when it was slightly re-cut and released as An Adventuress. Then comes 1921 and the making of a real Hollywood star with Valentinos turns in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Camille, and The Sheik. 1921 was also the year of the Rappe/Arbuckle debacle. The film then was released in 1922...but not as a re-release...it was essentially a new film. The editors used every trick in the book to plump up Valentino and Rappe...long shots blown to closeups...looped shots...reverse-the-negative shots..flashbacks which used out-takes...spliced in stock footage of bathing beauties on beaches to change the locale from World War I Germany to a desert island! This poster represents the only surviving version of the three films, so dont miss this chance to own a wonderful piece of Hollywood lore! There is edge wear in the bottom border, crossfold separations and border tears with museum tape on the verso, and chips in the right border. Fine+.
